Our Ambassadors
Greg & David's Expedition to Spitsbergen peninsular Svalbard.
Extreme Food supported, Greg and David, in June 2015, plan to explore Spitsbergen penisular on foot and in inflatable Kayaks. The trip will start from Longyearbyen with a hike through the Adventdalen valley, they will then cross two glaciers (Dronbreen and Bergmesterbreen) and head through the Reindalen Valley onwards to the Arctic Ocean. "At this point we'll inflate our kayaks and paddle around the peninsula past the Fridtjovbreen glacier heading 100km along the coast towards the Russian settlement of Barentsburg". They will pass Colesbukta Bay and finish the trip back on foot in Longyearbyen. |
Greg & David:
"This trip was supported by Extreme Foods, we solely relied on this product for all our energy needs. We tested breakfasts, both porridge and the Ultra Fuel liquid cereal breakfast. the dinners (Chicken Tikka, Shepard's Pie, Beef Curry, Chicken Pesto Pasta, Spaghetti Bolognese & Chilli Con Carne), as well as the puddings (apple & custard, chocolate pudding). As well as the Ultra Fuels (banana/ chocolate), Each product was conveniently packaged, extremely lightweight and contained 500Kcals at an excellent return of 4.9 Kcal to 5.0 Kcal per gram of product. At first look these small, lightweight, silver, space age pouches seem unable to provide a full meal. However add 300mls of water, stir, wait 8 minutes and the pouches magically transform into a genuinely delicious and fulfilling meal. During the first part of the adventure we battled for 50 solid hours to get through to the Reindalen Valley, during this time we slept in shifts to navigate the Polar Bear threat. This was extremely physical work as we carried all of our own equipment, including a 17kg inflatable kayak, we decided to eat 4-5 of these pouches per day and found our energy levels remained constant. The Ultra Fuels are particularly brilliant at providing an instant pick me up. We would have been impressed enough with the constant energy levels and lack of hunger, however when you add in the fact that each meal is fulfilling, tasty and most importantly feels like you are actually eating a proper meal. Even after 3 days of hiking and 5 days of kayaking we still found the pouches enjoyable with each meal being variable in taste. Of course we had our favorites, I could eat the porridge every day and my travelling partner was fond of the nicely spiced Chilli Con Carne, often consuming two packets at once!" |
